I want to extend a very Happy Mother’s Day to all of our M4M readers out there
A blessed Mother’s Day also goes out to Ann Romney. Please read the following information provided by The Women’s Conference on how Mitt Romney’s first lady empowers others:
Ann Romney places primary importance on her role as a wife, a mother, and a grandmother. As First Lady of Massachusetts, she continued her work on behalf of at risk youth.
In 1998, Mrs. Romney was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). She has volunteered much of her time to raise awareness of the disease as a Board Member of the New England Chapter of the MS Society, and has been awarded the Society’s Inspiration Award. By raising the profile of MS, as well as raising funds for advocacy and research, she is determined to make a difference in the lives of people who suffer from the disease.
Mrs. Romney is a strong believer that faith-based and community organizations can reach some members of our community better than government can. As such, Mrs. Romney served as the Governor’s Liaison to the White House Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives. As a dynamic community leader, she has been a long-serving supporter and leader in the United Way of Massachusetts Bay. One of her priorities within the United Way has been as initiator, co-chair and now member of the Faith and Action Committee, a coalition that provides funding to urban church programs designed to serve at-risk youth. She has also served on the Board at the United Way, as well as on their Executive Committee and Community Impact Committee.
Mrs. Romney is dedicated to improving the welfare of children, locally and internationally. She’s involved with Right To Play, formerly Olympic Aid, an international nonprofit organization that uses sport and play as a developmental tool for children in the most disadvantaged areas of the world. She lends her time and leadership to equine therapy programs for physically challenged children, literacy programs for children including the annual Scholastic Reading event, as well as organizations such as Partners for Youth with Disabilities, the American Red Cross, and the Perkins School for the Blind. As First Lady, she also served as a board member of the Massachusetts Children’s Trust Fund. In recognition for her efforts, Mrs. Romney was the recipient of the 2006 Lifetime Achievement Award from Operation Kids.
Romney’s wife stumps in LV
By: Paul Harasim | Las Vegas Review-Journal | Thursday, Jan 17, 2008
“If you’re Ann Romney, you can go to bed at 1 a.m. after a primary election victory party, sleep four hours, take a 41/2-hour flight from Michigan to Las Vegas, and then appear ready to pose for Town & Country magazine as you talk to Nevada supporters about your husband Mitt’s presidential candidacy.
“Not bad for anyone, let alone someone who was diagnosed in 1998 with multiple sclerosis, a degenerative neurological disease that often leaves those afflicted in wheelchairs.
“‘I’m in remission,’ the 58-year-old grandmother said in Summerlin, her wide smile evidence of the exuberance still lingering after her husband’s resounding win Tuesday in the Michigan primary.”
…
“Speaking to about 50 supporters in the home of Dr. Gregory Bigler and his wife Sally, Romney seemed confident that her husband would win Nevada’s Republican presidential caucuses Saturday.
“‘We’re organized,’ she told the women, who are responsible for getting out the Romney vote throughout Las Vegas. ‘I thank you for that.’
…
“The Las Vegas Valley residents who listened Wednesday to the woman who married her high school sweetheart 38 years ago are impressed with Mitt Romney’s commitment to family and the fact he headed a financial firm before becoming governor of Massachusetts.
“Elaine Fish, 82, who still works in the family business, John Fish Jewelers, said Mitt Romney’s business experience is what the country needs. ‘He knows how to get things done,’ she said. ‘And he stresses the closeness of a family.’
“Betty Rumford, 70, said she is impressed with Romney’s ability to bring people together. ‘He did it in Massachusetts and got a health plan together for all the people that worked.’
“Julie Hereford, 65, said, ‘Most candidates can talk a good game but they’ve never had to run a business the way he has. He understands how to strengthen the economy. That’s what we need right now.’”
I’ll tell you - Governor Romney is married to such a lovely woman! Ann Romney is a total class act. A very respectful woman who would do a great service to our nation as our First Lady.
She was a force in Massachusetts as First Lady where she was active in teenage pregnancy prevention efforts. She has been involved in a number of children’s charities, including being director of the inner city-oriented Best Friends, and was given the 2006 Lifetime Achievement Award from Salt Lake City-based Operation Kids. She has also served as Governor’s Liaison to the White House Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives and as a board member for the United Way of America.
On top of all of this, Ann Romney battles Multiple Sclerosis. With class and charm, she is a source of strength to those battling the disease with her. After being nearly incapacitated by this incurable disease, the busy wife of Mitt Romney, Governor of Massachusetts, mother of five sons and grandmother of six, fought her way back in large part through her love of horses and dressage, which she calls the elixir of pure joy.
“My spirits brighten and I love life when I’m on a horse,” she says simply. “Life is so much fuller if you find what you love and then put that into your life to make it more joyful.” Her story is one of courage and perseverance and a testament to the healing power equines can convey to their humans.
She is a true champion - and OH! And don’t forget - she’s a mom to 5 boys and 5 daughters-in-law. They have eleven grandchildren!
Thank you for stepping up to the plate and giving yourself to your country. Thank you to Ann. Thank you to your good sons and their families for also putting themselves out there to fight for what they believe is best for this country.
And to all of the Moms4Mitt readers…may you have a blessed Thanksgiving!
Feb. 14, 2007 — - Ann Romney is a mother of five, grandmother to ten and the wife of Republican presidential contender and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney.
Ann Romney was also diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1998, but she insists that she’s “totally onboard” with her husband’s bid for the White House.
The aspiring first lady sat down with ABC News’ Kate Snow, just a day after her husband entered the race. What follows are extended excerpts of their conversation.
I met Ann Romney last August at a political event in Tennessee. Both of our planes were late due to weather and we were both rushed to this event. What a kind and gracious woman she is! She has a very calm and caring presence. She would do right by Laura Bush. I can absolutely see her as our next First Lady!

Ann Romney’s time
In travels around US, governor’s wife a hit
By Scott Helman, Globe Staff | February 27, 2006
When Republicans are asked which assets Governor Mitt Romney would have in a 2008 presidential run, they cite his management experience, his polished conservative message, even his made-for-television looks.
Increasingly, they are citing something else: his wife.
Ann Romney, though largely invisible back home in Massachusetts, is winning praise as a warm and witty sidekick as her husband begins to spread his name and promote his possible candidacy around the country. She has taken the microphone at several recent GOP events and been a big hit each time.
”I’ve seen Laura Bush, I’ve seen a lot of people,” said Jim Runestad, president of the North Oakland Republican Club in Oakland County, Mich., where Mitt and Ann Romney both addressed a 750-person fund-raiser earlier this month. ”If I had to pick a politician’s wife, of all I’ve seen, she’d be the one.”
Ann Romney, through the governor’s aides, declined a request for an interview. Julie Teer, a spokeswoman for the governor, said in an e-mail that Ann Romney, 56, ”is not a political figure.”
”Occasionally Ann accompanies the governor to events in state and out-of-state. Governor Romney will sometimes spontaneously ask Ann to speak so people can hear from her,” Teer said. ”As the governor’s partner in life, Ann is his sounding board and biggest supporter.”
Spontaneity or stagecraft, it seems to be working.
One of the events where Ann Romney impressed onlookers was a private, 50-person dinner on Feb. 17 with local party leaders and activists in Spartanburg, S.C. She sounded all the right notes by talking about the Romneys’ five sons, their eight grandchildren, and nearly four decades of marriage, said Rick Beltram, chairman of the Spartanburg County Republican Party.
